1/29/2024 0 Comments Ipanic review![]() As far as the mechanics go in the room, it had a good game flow, a good hint system, a very attentive gamemaster(we would not have escaped without him), no breakdowns (Yay!), great customer service and a good website! We had a fantastic time and I’m dying to do the Alien Encounter Room, I wished we lived there. To read a fully-formatted version of this review, click here: They managed not to hit any of our pet peeves which are red herrings, having to guess, need for prior knowledge, and dark rooms without alternative lighting (flashlights) so great job for not having issues in those areas!!!! Overall, we enjoyed the game a great deal. Many of the puzzles were unique and memorable and I enjoyed them. The game had a decent story to gameplay connection and while we had some searching to do it wasn't too much. I don't know if I would want to do it with 12 but we sure needed a lot of help with only two of us. While there were only two of us during our escape, the booking information says it holds up to 12. The props were good, some very impressive, and there was minimal clutter. The story went well with the setting, therefore, making it an immersive environment for the story. Simple compared to some of their other rooms but we felt it was well done. As far as the setting goes, the set itself was done well. When my family discusses escapes rooms after we play them we think of them with three aspects in mind, Setting, Gameplay, and Mechanics. We had a great time at your establishment and getting to spend time chatting with you about escape rooms in general was a bonus. First, we want to give a big shout out to the owner and his family. At Ipanic we booked Diamond Heist on May 25, 2017, which was our 54th game overall. This was our first trip to Chicago(from Arizona) and we booked several escape rooms in the Chicago area. Even after we failed and the game master was showing us the few things we didn't get past there were a couple we couldn't even see (colored dots) even though the game master pointed right at them. The only other issue we had was the lighting. For example, who knew that when told to press a number of buttons that you not only needed to press the buttons but that you needed to hold them all down for upwards of 30 seconds (maybe a different type of switch instead of the kind used would have helped)? Even after the game master told us this we couldn't get it to work until our third try. We did find the puzzles to be quite challenging but we wasted a lot of time because we had issues with some of the controls. ![]() Everyone commented on the heat but for me personally it was oppressive and greatly distracted from my interest in participating. We weren't offered the option to reschedule so we began. We had great expectations but those were greatly diminished when we were told that the air conditioning wasn't working.I don't like heat. This was the first escape room that anyone in our party had undertaken. Do yourselves a favor and check out iPanic, they do wonderful stuff with escape rooms. I think a little oil may do the trick, so not a huge loss there ( We still got the record ) ) All in all, it was a wonderful experience for us at iPanic as it always is, and the team at Fuzzy Logic is so excited to try out the new stuff they've got coming. For fear of posting spoilers, I will just say that at least two people in our team tried to do something, and it simply would not work as intended, more force was needed than was comfortable for us. This got better as the experience continued, however. The room is challenging enough on its own without the limits on our sight. The darkness fit the theme, however, I am not a fan of using darkness as a limiter to make the experience more difficult, and there were definitely some points where I felt that were the case. I think that's a fair limit, however we had a group of four and there were still points where we were tripping over each other a bit, trying to solve things. The room itself started out on the small side, which is why they recommend 6 people as a maximum group size for this experience. There's nothing going on, so it would stand to reason they're not getting the foot traffic they deserve. I'm excited for them to be moving to a new location, because the mall they're in currently is absolutely dead. The story, immersion, puzzle design and flow, everything is top notch. We're all enthusiasts, and we keep coming back to iPanic because they do everything so well. My friends and I had a great time at iPanic, as we always do! Definitely excited to see what they're able to do when they move and open up their new space next month! We did Witchcraft this time around, and it was just as strong as the other room experiences we've done there.
